Today was a great 10 mile run with my bestie, Sheryl. She moved into my LDS (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) ward in 1997 and I was HUGE with baby Caden in my tummy. I had him and he was a beastie 10 lbs!! Yikes! Anyway, back to the story, she brought me the most delicious dinner. I still remember it to this day–roast beef with potatoes and carrots, salad, homemade rolls and some delicious cookies and boy, oh boy, did that hit the spot. I think that my body was craving some good old fashioned home cooking. That sealed the deal and we were best friends from that time on. She has been such a strength to me and I to her and we have been though A LOT of trials together but also a lot of happy moments too. She ran the Boston Marathon with me in 2013, but was not able to finish because she was little bit behind me and was whisked off the course after the blasts happened and we was so scared that I had been injured by the blast. She knew I would have been close to it. When we finally found each other we embraced and cried and were so happy we survived that day without injury. We continued to support each other throughout that difficult time to recover from what we had witnessed that day. More on that story in a later post that will devoted fully to my story about that day. Love this amazing friend! Everyone needs a friendship like we have developed throughout the years
This mornings workout was an easy 10 miles at about a 9 min/mile pace and lots and lots of chatter :). We had much to catch up on. We both said that we could have run another 10 miles because we needed to talk about so many things that have happened recently. My hips were tight on the run, so I broke out my “Yoga for Runners” DVD. If you don’t have this and you’re a runner, you are missing out! It totally has helped me with stretching and strengthening my hips, core and upper body. You can order it from Rodale and it’s under the Runner’s World tab at the bottom. AND I have to say……….after I had a little nap after our run (I had to wake up at 4:55 a.m. YIKES), I went to my favorite place called Swig and got a big fat diet coke and had one of my favorite snack bar that I got at Costco. They are from a company called “Cave Man” and they are filled with nothing but delicious goodness :). Also, when I get back from a run, I love refueling with these products from JDJ Nutrition. I seriously LOVE the protein powder because it’s made from 10 different sources of protein! Can you get any better than that? The BCAA Shock is what I fuel with before working out and you can use it with a pre-workout powder. The glutamine is to be used after your workout to help with muscle recovery. During a workout glutamine is depleted from your body which decreases strength, so glutamine restores glycogen and restores energy. I have noticed a difference in the couple of months I have been taking it.
